When you do a Google search for easy Linux distributions, you'll see results like:

• ZD-net: Thankfully, with the best Linux distributs for beginners, you don't have to possess any coding or programming experience
• itsfoss: But then, it’s not Linux itself that brings this complexity. Rather, it’s the “newness” factor that causes this
• Techradar: The best Linux distros for beginners makes it simple and easy for Windows and Apple users to move over to Linux computing

This is all a load of crap, the truth is that when you install linux a lot of things do not work, full stop.

But if you feel lucky: just do it but read my lips: "backup everything you want to keep and prepare for a bumpy ride..."

I normally write about my Linux-adventures in Dutch, but once in a while I'll do a resume in English:

So I am trying Linux now for about two weeks, dual boot, so I can easily switch back to Windows (where everything works perfectly fine).

After such a short while I ofcourse can not say much yet, but three things stick out from the start:

1. As soon as you enter Linux for the first time you'll see that it has taken away all your rights and priviliges to all your harddrives and files and folders
2. Hardware-support is terrible: both Zorin and OpenSuse have trouble with my Realtek 8821 wifi-adapter, so no internet, use the phone as a hotspot
3. Things that work on one day might just stop working the other day, no error, no reasons, they just fail

So far for me Linux is a pile of crap, despite what all the websites say and all the Linux-users: if you want a pc or laptop that just works, stick to Windows, because Linux is one big lie and you're mostly on your own unless you like grumpy Forum-admins and wise-guy Linux users who have never learned how to behave: this so called "dedicated users-network" is non-existing: it's a rough world where money is number one priority like everywhere.

Free Operating System?

Hell no: you pay a high price if you switch from Windows to Linux; a price that you can not express in dollars or euros.

Really: I do not like Windows' politics, but I am not going to act like Linux is heaven, because it affects every pleasure that I have in using my laptop and being online.

I still have OpenSuse on the other boot-option, but just half an hour ago it aborted a 78 minute download of 1700+ updates at 97% because the stupid system itself disconnected the phone and because it can not get the wifi-adapter to work all the downloads and installs were cancelled by the system and I can start from scratch loosing another 90 minutes of my life which I will never get back... Thank for nothing: Linux

Ik heb nu twee Linux distributies geprobeerd, eerst Zorin en nu openSuse en 1 ding valt me meteen op (en is mega-irritant):
standaard heb je totaal geen rechten om wat dan ook te wijzigen, al is het een simpel tekstbestandje ergens op je computer: overal moet je voor inloggen en als je opnieuw opstart, dan begint het allemaal weer van voren af aan: je kunt niet bij je andere schijven, elke keer moet je weer inloggen en dat gaat strontvervelend worden.

Ze zeggen: dat is voor je eigen veiligheid, maar dat zeggen overheden van heel veel landen ook op een bordje bij de flitspaal "For your safety", "pour votre securité", "voor je eigen veiligheid", allemaal leugentjes ter meerdere eer en glorie van hun bankrekeningen waar het heilige geld op terecht komt, Halleluja!

Nét zoals Google en Microsoft en f.ckbook ook zeggen "Neem nou die gepersonaliseerde advertenties, dat is handig: dan zoeken wij wel naar de juiste producten voor je" en wanneer je op een website komt die niet alles laat zien dan kun je "heel handig" inloggen met je Google-account of je f.ckbook-account, maar ondertussen wordt alles wat je doet vastgelegd en verpatst achter de grote WWW-schermen.
Je bent handelswaar, een melkkoe en zo gauw je met 1 van die big-techbedrijven contact maakt beginnen ze meteen aan je uiers te trekken.

Nu zeg ik niet dat dat met alle Linux-distributies ook zo is, maar Zorin is heel duidelijk supercommercieel, terwijl Linux een gratis en veilig besturingssysteem moet zijn. Zorin legt alles vast wat je doet en god weet wat daarmee gebeurt, dus oprotten met Zorin!

Van OpenSuse weet ik het nog niet, maar ik geloof dat het bij hen wel goed zit, alleen dat kut-inloggen elke keer: Godsammeliefhebben!: laat me gvd gewoon mijn ding doen op mijn eigen laptop met mijn eigen harde schijven en mijn eigen bestanden 😟

Ik ben een Amsterdammer, ik ben dol op wereldse zaken, op onbekende culturen, lekkere exotische gerechten, poezie in andere talen, prachtige kledij uit verre wereldstreken, interessante nieuwe manieren van omgang en mij onbekende filosofieën en gewoontes: er is zóveel schoonheid om ons koude kikkerlandje heen en je hoeft er niet eens ver voor te reizen.

Ik heb Nederland selectief Nationalistisch zien worden: we houden van macaroni en een nasibal, maar immigratie moet minder en anders denken wordt bestraft met hongerloonuitkeringen. We leven met sociale huurwoningnood en ridicuul stijgende prijzen voor alles inclusief eerste levensbehoeften zoals voedsel, energie en gezondheidszorg.

When I was a boy

Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I was a child, 7 years old, watching television with my family. Once in a while, in between two programs, there were these short intervals about the starving little children in (the oil-rich) country of Biafra: babies, so dried out that they were crying without tears while flies crawled their lips and their eyes. Mothers trying to squeeze some drops of milk out of their breasts and these poor little ones trying to get some of it (mostly in vain). And as young as I was, I could hardly believe it was happening in the same world that I was living in, me: sitting in front of the television with a bowl of nibb-it and a glass of chocolat milk. And when I went to bed in my clean pyjamas, with the fresh odor of toothpaste still in my mouth, those images were sticking in my head. And I couldn’t sleep. I didn’t understand why those people had to suffer so much and I felt bad about myself, laying in my warm bed, my stomach filled with food and the soft buzz of my small fishtank-pump on the background. I felt disturbed: ashamed, disappointed and sad. Later-on I learned that 1.5 million children died being 3/4 of the total death toll during the Nigerian civil war. Now, 55 years later, the Biafran people still want independence, several peaceful groups are still trying to establish a Biafran sovereign state, without success until today.

Geen hutje op de hei? 😢

Toen ik een jaar of 12 was en meerdere discussies over politiek op verjaardagsfeestjes had aangehoord, wist ik het al: "er klopt helemaal niets van deze wereld, als ik groot ben ga ik in een hutje op de hei wonen".
Maar toen ik dat als tiener nóg zei omdat ik moest beslissen over mijn vervolgopleiding, kreeg ik van mijn moeder de koude douche: “een hutje op de hei gaat ‘m niet worden”.

Dat was even slikken: "waarom eigenlijk niet?"
Zo werkt het dus blijkbaar niet die vrijheid: je bent wel een soort van vrij, maar binnen de grenzen van het toelaatbare (grenzen die door overopa’s zijn bedacht). We leven nou eenmaal in een consumptiemaatschappij en alleen dáárvoor word je klaargestoomd.
Dus dan neem je maar de goedbedoelde adviezen aan en roept iets wat men wil horen en meteen hoor je bij de groep: je doet wat algemeen van je wordt verwacht en dus besta je weer.
