A watering hole attack is a kind of attack in which a hacker or a group of hackers target a specific group of people in society, not by attacking the members themselves but by attacking certain websites where they are known to come or by creating totally new websites on subjects that this group tends to follow. These compromised websites can then be infected with malware that installs itself on the visitors' devices or trick visitors into doing something that will harm them or their devices. Typically these type of attacks harm a larger group of people than the specific group they are targeted at.
